Four engineering students killed in high-speed car crash on ECR
Chennai: Four students of private engineering college near Chennai were killed and two others were injured when the car in which they were traveling to Chennai lost control and crashed against a parapet of a bridge near Chaturangapatinam in Kancheepuram district on early Sunday morning.
Police identified the deceased as Patrick Ashwin, 18, of Kodungaiyur, who owned the car, his friends B Sundar, 18, from Kilpauk, J Mahesh, 19, of Madhavaram nad S Ashwin, 17, from Perambur.
Two injured were identified as Santhosh Kumar, 18, of Perambur and Santhoshkar, 17 of Kodungaiyur. The two survived in the crash were because of airbag. Santhosh Kumar was driving the car, said police officials.
Police said that the accident happened around 4.30 am on Sunday morning and other motorists who noticed the crash on Vengambakkam bridge near Poonjeri called the ambulance. Paramedical team took the injured to the Chengalpet medical college from where they were later shifted to a private hospital in Chennai.
Police said that the group of students left the city on Saturday night at around 10 pm. “Their first halt was in Kovalam. After celebrating the night drive at Kovalam they initially decided to go to Puducherry but on the way they changed the plan and decided to return to Chennai. As they were speeding back to the city, the driver lost control and smashed against the side of the bridge and crashed 30 feet down to waterway, which was dry. The vehicle was completely crushed in the accident.
