‘UFOs’ alarm Delhi airport officials, IAF pressed into action

New Delhi: The national capital’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport was put on high alert after suspicious flying objects were spotted in and around the airport on Friday morning according to a report in Hindustan Times.

The Air Traffic Controller (ATC) reportedly saw unidentified flying objects hovering around the airport on three separate occasions. Following his observation, the Indian Air force was pressed into action and a chopper was sent to look for those objects, sources said. The IAF chopper however failed to trace any sign of those objects.

Sources claimed that the flying objects spotted by the ATC on Friday were about 8 nautical miles away from the Delhi airport.

The ATC however has no visual evidence to back his claim and had allegedly seen a flying object over the runway earlier on Tuesday too.

On Wednesday night, a pilot flying for an Air Vistara flight from Bhubaneswar had reported that a laser beam light had distracted him just when he was landing at the Delhi international airport. The distraction could have even led to an accident, putting the lives of passengers at danger.

According to the pilot, the laser beam that distracted him was just 6 nautical miles away from the runway. The occurrence strikes as strange as the Delhi police prohibited use of laser beams by any individual, group or organizers in areas around the airport.

An Air officer had spotted suspicious objects from the ATC tower in Delhi airport on Friday morning. The ATC radar could not capture anything to prove these claims but has alarmed officials nonetheless.

While there is no evidence to substantiate these sightings, the airport was put on high alert by security agencies. Sources say IAF is authorised to shoot down any suspicious objects if deemed necessary.
