Telangana effects its first big shuffle of bureaucrats
Hyderabad: B. Janardhan Reddy has been appointed GHMC commissioner in place of Somesh Kumar. Mr Kumar has been transferred to the tribal welfare department, considered to be an insignificant post.
The transfer of Mr Kumar assumes significance in the backdrop of a large number of complaints by the Opposition parties accusing him of working for a TRS victory. His transfer comes a day after the Election Commission deputed its team to check on the allegations of illegal deletion of voters’s names in the GHMC limits.
The TS government effected its first major reshuffle of IAS officers late on Friday by transferring 22 IAS officers. In other transfers, Raymond Peter posted as Chief Commissioner of Land Administration, an indication that he may the next Chief Secretary after Rajiv Sharma retires.
The GHMC commissioner had received severe criticism from the Opposition who also accused him of working for the TRS and its new-found ally, the AIMIM in the delimitation of GHMC divisions.
Mr Kumar, a 1989 batch IAS officer took charge as GHMC commissioner in October 2013 and was given additional charge of special commissioner in December 2014 once the tenure of the GHMC council ended.
He had completed two years as GHMC commissioner in October. However, Mr Kumar had more announcements to make and less executions during this tenure. Mr Kumar had been allotted to AP cadre by the Pratyush Sinha committee. He challenged the allotment in the Central Administrative Tribunal seeking an order to retain him in Telangana state cadre. The Tribunal is still hearing the case.
