Lack of political will key reason for judicial delay: Arvind Kejriwal

Effort will be made to ensure cases are decided within six months of their inception, says CM

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday held "lack of political will" as key reason for judicial delay and assured assistance for ensuring speedy justice delivery system in the national capital. Kejriwal also said that if there is political will, the judicial system can work faster and it will benefit justice seekers.

"Lack of political will is the main reason for delayed justice. The political system and the politics were responsible for the slowing down of the judicial system. If there is political will, we can make the judicial system work faster and it will benefit seekers of justice," he said.

Speaking at the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the High Court of Delhi at Vigyan Bhawan here, the Chief Minister said the Delhi government would render assistance and an effort will be made to ensure cases are decided within six months of their inception.

"Now a days, the way things are going on, people have a lot of complaints against Legislature and the Executive as they feel mis-governance is going on and in such a situation, they look up to the judiciary.

"In order to sustain faith of the people in the judiciary, it needs to be independent. If the Executive and Legislature interfere with the working of the judiciary, then it would affect faith of the people. The independence of judiciary should not be compromised at any cost," he said.

"Delhi government will not interfere with the work of the judiciary and will provide all support including buildings infrastructure, other resources as well as officers," he added.
