DRDO to make hypersonic missiles

It would reach target as fast as possible and cannot be intercepted
Chennai: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) will work to develop hypersonic missiles, which can reach targets faster. Speaking on the sidelines of the first annual Dr Abdul Kalam memorial extramural lecture at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras, on Friday, Dr S. Christopher, Director General of DRDO said that the organisation would look at developing hypersonic missiles, which would reach
target as fast as possible and cannot be intercepted.
“Today people say why not you intercept the missile before it reaches, if you reach faster then they may not be intercepted, which will be possible with hypersonic missiles. In the case of hypersonic missiles, we are making a start. In the world it (hypersonic) is either not achieved or not well published, so we think it is a good area to work,” he said.
The Director General said that DRDO would also work in life sciences in which they would look how to make Army personnel get acclimatised faster in high altitude mountain conditions.
“In the case of armament group we (DRDO) have done several tanks, we are now going from manned to unmanned ones,” Dr Christopher said. Earlier Dr Christopher delivered extramural lecture on “the strategy is all about strength respecting strength”.
