Dalit CM: ‘Congress high command must take a call’
Having a dalit CM is an aspiration of the people
TUMAKURU: “Having a dalit CM is an aspiration of the people, but sometimes it is not possible due to political compulsions,” said KPCC president G Parameshwar. Addressing reporters after meeting Siddaganga Math seer Sri Shivakumara Swami here on Friday, he said people might have sought the CM’s post for Dalits on the grounds of ‘social justice’ . But making a dalit a CM was left to Congress high command and they were just followers. On why he did not get the Deputy CM’s post, Parameshwar said that he appealed to the high command for it , but finally agreed to work as a Cabinet minister as per the directions of Sonia Gandhi.
“She thought in a broader perspective and spoke of the problems in creating a DCM’s post. So, we have to compromise certain political compulsions in a national party like Congress,” he said. Asked if he would continue as KPCC president chief, he said, “I will continue as KPCC chief until the high command selects a candidate.”
