Complete lift irrigation scheme in a year, orders Chandrababu Naidu
CM appealed to the farming community to use water judiciously by opting for drip irrigation system
Nellore: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed the irrigation engineers to complete the Rs 62 crore estimated lift irrigation scheme to provide water for irrigation to Kandaleru left canal within 12 months as against the scheduled 32 months.
He was addressing a public meeting at Podalakur after setting foundation stone for the scheme which can address needs of 22,000 acres. He said Krishna-Pennar river-linking project will be the second such project after Godavari-Krishna while dw-elling at length on the benef-its of Pennar-Krishna link that would put an end to drought in SPSR Nellore.
Expressing concern over dwindling water reserves in all the irrigation projects in the state, he has put the total shortage at 520 tmc ft and attributed the situation to ecological imbalance.
He appealed to the farming community to use water judiciously by opting for drip irrigation system. Pointing to modernisation works of Kavali canal, he said that the canal will be named after former MP late Bezawada Papi Reddy. Reminding that Krishnapatnam Port is part of Chennai-Bengaluru and Visakhapatnam-Chennai industrial corridors, he hinted about steps are being taken to develop Krishnapatnam region as a smart city.
After announcing Rs 1 lakh compensation to the family of a woman who committed suicide recently, he appealed to the people not to take such extreme steps and underlined the need for a study on the suicides to arrest the pattern.
