Brazilian filmmaker Julio Bressane to head IFFK jury
Thiruvananthapuram: Celebrated Brazilian filmmaker Julio Bressane will head the five-member core jury for the 20th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK), which will be held from December 4 to 11.
As many as 180 films will be screened in 13 theatres with a total capacity of 9330 seats. The other members of the jury are: Moussinin Abza, Nadia Dresti, Maxin Williams and Janu Baruva.
Delegate registration for the 20th IFFK will start from November 5. A delegate pass will be priced at Rs 500, same as last year. Students can avail the delegate passes at a subsidized rate of Rs 300.
Two public venues are also being transformed for public screenings. A total of 180 movies will be screened in this year’s IFFK.
A core committee, appointed by the state government along with a Technical Committee headed by filmmaker Shaji N Karun, also announced two other jury boards for the smooth functioning of the festival.
Deric Malcom and Lathika Padgongar are members of the Fipresci (international federation of film critics) Jury. The Netpac (Network for the promotion of Asian Cinema) Jury consists of Siddique Marbak, Swarna Malvarchi and Meenakhi Sheddey.
It has been decided to expand Nishagandhi into a 3000-capacity theatre. The main attraction this year’s IFFK will be the acquisition of two public spaces for the screening of censored movies, said Festival Chairman Shaji.N.Karun.
While Manaveeyam veedhi has been selected as a venue for screening censored movies, plans to take over the basket ball court of Central Stadium to screen special movie packages, with a seating capacity for a thousand people, are also at its final stage.
