Bengaluru: Rs 50 lakh heist case cracked, accused arrested

The accused, Jagadish, had joined Brinks Arya as ATM Junior Officer just three days before the incident

BENGALURU: The Halasuru police have cracked Rs 50 lakh cash heist case reported on M.G. Road on October 21 and have arrested a 26-year-old man. Rs 49 lakh cash has also been recovered from him.

The accused, Jagadish, had joined Brinks Arya as ATM Junior Officer just three days before the incident. He had used a stolen resume to get the job and had claimed that his name was Mahesh. A resident of Udanahalli village in Doddaballapura, the accused was a diploma dropout.

The police said that they verified CCTV footage as part of the investigation. “On the day he attended the interview, Jagadish’s friend Gopinath, who was earlier working in the same firm and also a resident of Udanahalli, had come to meet his former colleagues. Gopinath saw Jagadish and spoke to him. Jagadish told Gopinath that he had come to attend an interview. This was captured in the CCTV camera installed in the company.

“The details of Gopinath were taken from the company and a police team was sent to his house. When he was questioned and showed the CCTV footage, he identified Jagadish and took the police straight to Jagadish’s, which was on the next road. Jagadish was arrested immediately,” the police said.

The accused had bought a Pulsar bike from the stolen money and the bike too has been recovered along with the remaining cash of Rs 49 lakh. On October 21 afternoon, Jagadish had escaped with Rs 50 lakh cash when the vehicle stopped near Indus Ind Bank at Webb’s Junction to fill cash to the ATM.

Case against firm

The police said that they will also initiate action against the company that offered the accused a job without proper background verification. “The staff in the firm failed to realise that Jagadish was using a fake resume and had given him the job. Also, they are not practising various security measures that are to be taken on a daily basis,” the police said.
