According to Deadline, Selena will not be starring in the series

Selena Gomez is set to receive her first major executive producing credit with a new Netflix series called 13 Reasons Why, based on a 2007 young adult novel by Jay Asher.
The 13-episode series is about a high school student named Hannah Baker who commits suicide and leaves a box of cassette tapes to a classmate.
On the tapes, which are mailed with instructions to pass along from one student to another, Hannah explains to twelve peers how they each played a role in her death, by giving thirteen reasons explaining why she took her life. According to Deadline, Selena will not be starring in the series.
