Hyderabad: TRS president and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is expected to name the party’s nominee for the Warangal Lok Sabha bypoll on Friday.

Most likely, he would announce the name of Advocates JAC convener from Warangal city, Gudimella Ravikumar as the candidate.

Party leaders from Warangal and ministers who met Mr Rao at Telangana Bhavan on Thursday, authorised him to to finalise the candidate.

The CM told them that he had deliberately withheld announcing the chairmen for various state-owned public undertakings keeping in view the selection of candidate for the bypoll.

He told them he was very much in favour of sending a person who has good communication skills in English and Hindi to Parliament.

Mr Rao said that he would decide and announce the party nominee on Friday.

The TRS chief is not going to undertake any whirlwind tours in the Warangal Lok Sabha constituency. He will address a single election meeting in Warangal city either on November 17 or 18. The ministers who were given charge of the Assembly segments in the constituency will address election meetings after the party nominee files his papers.

Congress may give Rajaiah 1 more try

It is reliably learnt that former MP Sircilla Rajaiah will be named by the Congress in a day or two as the party’s candidate for the Warangal Lok Sabha bypoll.

AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh returned to Delhi on Thursday evening after literally conducting an opinion poll among Warangal party leaders at Gandhi Bhavan over the choice of the candidate.

Around 80 leaders, who were present at the meeting convened by TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, were given paper slips seeking their order of preference of the probable candidates.

After polling their opinions, Mr Singh met with the probable candidates and other aspirants.
