DCW asks Delhi Police to give report on dark spots in capital

Delhi Police had mapped 255 dark and vulnerable transit routes in the city Feb

New Delhi: The Delhi Commission for Women has written to Police Commissioner B S Bassi seeking a detailed report on the findings of the Delhi Police regarding the mapping of dark spots in the national capital.

"Commission has been informed of the presence of dark spots in Delhi. It has also been brought to our notice that Delhi Police has conducted mapping of the dark spots in Delhi.

Therefore, you are requested to provide the findings of the mapping exercise for the perusal of the Commission," said the letter by DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal.

The DCW chief has sought the details of the roads, streets and localities where there are either no or non-functional streetlights.

Maliwal also sought details regarding the agencies responsible for illumination of the dark spot and the date when mapping of the said road or street had been conducted.

"This data is crucial for it will assist the Commission in fulfilling its statutory mandate of ensuring women safety in public spaces," the letter said.

Maliwal asked the Commissioner to submit the details latest by September 6.

The Delhi Police had mapped 255 dark and vulnerable transit routes in the city February following a directive from the Home Ministry.
