Age not a factor in battle of ballot
KOZHIKODE: The two candidates are contrasting in their age and thoughts. One is young whereas the other is the seniormost contesting the corporation polls. Meet N.P. Soufia, 22, mother of a four-month- old boy, and K. Krishnan, 76, former Elathur grama panchayat member, who represent the opposite sides of electoral politics.
Soufia is contesting from Vellayil ward as UDF candidate (Muslim League), while Krishnan, LDF, is fighting from Chettikulam ward.
Though Soufia entered married life early and is now into politics, she wants to implement many welfare programmes in her ward. “Since the majority of the people here belong to the fishermen community, I will focus on their needs especially the closure of the only Maveli store for these people,” said Soufia. Waste management, drainage and implementation of a few development projects are some of her major concerns.
Krishnan has almost five decades of experience in politics representing the LDF. “Though I am the eldest among all, I have faith in my people who have been seeing me working all these years,” said Krishnan. “Age is just a number and all what I can do is service to the people even at this age,” he said confidently.
