Medical student stages own kidnap drama
To extract money from parents to buy Audi
Chennai: Two days after the 19-year-old medical student was reportedly kidnapped for a ransom of Rs 1.5 crore, the police on Thursday said that was drama staged by the teen himself along with his friend to extract money from his parents to purchase an Audi car.
Ajmal, son of doctor couple Riyazudeen–Waheeda, left his home at Tambaram on Tuesday morning saying that he was going to his college, Balaji Medical College in Pallavaram, where he was doing his second year in MBBS. Ajmal’s sister is also a doctor.
On Wednesday his mother received the ransom call. The police on Thursday tracked Ajmal and his friend Halik, a resident of Maraimalai Nagar, Ramanad, where they reached on Wednesday night after spending a night at Bengaluru.
“The youth called up his mother saying that he is coming back. That is when the cops could track the signal and secure him and his friend in Ramanad,” a source said. Halik had booked an Audi car costing Rs 65 lakh and the two came up with the plan to stage a kidnap drama to help solve the ‘financial crisis’.
Police doubted the entire incident from Wednesday itself. “Our initial enquiries revealed that the boy had been not attending the college for the last 10 days. The so-called kidnapper has been calling only Ajmal’s mother not his father. There was no call since Wednesday afternoon. All those were not adding up,” a senior police officer noted.
Police said the incidents were akin to the story in the movie Soodhu Kavvum, in which a politician’s son stages his own kidnap to extract money from his father.
