Actor Nikhil’s upcoming film Sankarabharanam is based on the Hindi film Phas Gaya Re Obama. The 2010 small-budget film was directed by Subhash Kapoor with Rajat Kapoor, Sanjay Mishra, Manu Rishi and Neha Dhupia as the lead actors.

The story is about an NRI who comes to India to sell his ancestors’ property and lands in trouble. The Telugu film’s story is also the same and most of the shooting was done in Bihar just like the original Hindi film.

Sankarabharanam has been produced and written by Kona Venkat. “The original idea of Sankarabharanam was taken from Phas Gaya Re Obama and we wove the story around it. We have taken the rights for the entire South,” tweeted Kona Venkat. Nikhil plays the NRI and Nandita is the female lead while Anjali will be seen in a special role as Munni. Debutant Uday is the director.
