Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Wednesday urged Union home minister Rajnath Singh to provide 60 or more additional IAS and IPS officers, in view of the proposed increase in the number of districts, from the present 10 to 24.
Besides, he also sought speeding up of the bifurcation of the High Court and other institutions under Schedule 9 and 10 of the AP Reorganisation Act, and other provisions mentioned in the Act.
The TS government has been insisting on division of the High Court citing various problems, including denial of promotions to judges belonging to TS.
Mr Singh reportedly responded positively to Mr Rao’s requests, saying that steps have been initiated for early bifurcation of the High Court.
Mr Rao also pointed out to Mr Singh the delay in division of 89 government companies and corporations under Ninth Schedule of the Act and continuance of facilities for both states in 107 state institutions which also needed to be divided.
He pointed out that in the posting of IAS and IPS officers, Hyderabad is considered a district whereas it is the state capital and home to nearly one crore people.
Mr Rao pointed out that only four direct IPS officers were allotted to Hyderabad and sought more officers, saying this was grossly inadequate.
Referring to the merger of seven mandals of Khammam with AP under the Polavaram Irrigation project, he said due this imbalance occurred in the Assembly constituencies.
He also requested Mr Singh to bring in an Amendment to the Act at the earliest to increase number of Assembly constituencies in TS from present 119 to 153.
Later, Mr Rao called on President Pranab Mukherjee at the Rashtrapati Bhavan and invited him grace the proposed Chandi Yagam from December 23, at a date convenient to him. Mr Mukherjee promised to attend the yagam.
