G. Kumar Naik said that office and staff will be provided once he reports to duty
BENGALURU: Though the city has been reeling under garbage crisis, the BBMP has been lackadaisical in providing even basic facilities to IAS officers coming on deputation to crucial departments such as solid waste management. The Palike is yet to provide a full-fledged office and other requirements to Subodh Yadav, who was posted to BBMP as special commissioner for solid waste management (SWM). Hence Yadav is yet to take charge of his new posting. He had come in place of Darpan Jain, who recently got transferred.
However, BBMP Commissioner G. Kumar Naik said that office and staff will be provided once he reports to duty. Currently Yadav is posted on Bihar poll duty, he added.
Meanwhile, the garbage situation is the city has got further vitiated due to the non-clearance of trash in many places. Stray dogs and cows have been feeding on the garbage and posing threat to motorists and pedestrians, alleged Jayashree J, a resident of R.T. Nagar.
While Mayor B.N. Manjunath Reddy has assured that garbage trucks will be making extra trips to clear the backlog, the communities living near the waste processing units are up in arms against indiscriminate and unscientific dumping of waste. There was opposition at Lakshmipura, S. Bingipura near Anekal and at Chigaranhalli, which leads to waste processing units - Terrafirma at Chigaranahalli and MSGP.
They are planning to hold a dharna from Friday if the number of garbage trucks reaching MSGP and Terrafirma are not reduced. The villagers with block trucks, said Govindaraju.
Although Kannahalli and Seegehalli waste processing units needs two more weeks to become operational, they have already been turned into a dump yard. This has upset residents of Magadi and surrounding areas, sources added.
