No 'go' from IndiGo: Airline stops woman in short dress from boarding flight
New Delhi: A woman passenger who was on her way to Delhi from Doha was allegedly stopped from boarding her IndiGo flight from Mumbai as the airline staff felt she was not dressed ‘appropriately’.
The woman who was reportedly dressed in a frock, ironically, did not face any trouble when she travelled from Doha to Mumbai on a Qatar airways flight. It was when she arrived in Mumbai to take her connecting flight to the national capital, that she was allegedly stopped by the IndiGo staff owing to her dress.
"Nobody raised any objection at the Doha airport. She was not indecently dressed. She was wearing a frock that ended above her knee," said a passenger who was witness to the incident.
She had to miss her flight but was given accommodation in another flight to Delhi after she was made to change into trousers, according to a report in Indian Express.
IndiGo officials have said the woman was stopped keeping in mind a dress code that its employees have to follow when they use "staff leisure travel privileges" offered by them. The woman in question is a former employee of the airline and her sister currently works with the airlines.
The private airline even issued a formal statement, defending its staff, claiming that they had followed protocol.
"We regret that an IndiGo passenger (who happens to be an ex-IndiGo employee and a family member of a current employee) experienced an untoward behaviour at the Mumbai airport... As per the guidelines outlined, employees and the nominated family members are required to maintain a specific dress code, as and when they fly with the airline under the staff leisure travel privileges. Keeping in mind this policy, the Mumbai ground staff followed the protocol to brief this passenger on the dress code policy," said the airline.
