Everyone in this textile shop is a candidate

Divya is contesting as BJP candidate for the second time

Kollam: Those who visit this textile shop in Munroe Thuruthu here would mistake it for a panchayat office as all staff members and even the owner are contesting under various political banners in different wards in this election.

SKB textiles owner Gopalakrishnan is a CPI candidate in Villimangalam West ward which is a sitting seat of Congress in general category. Kavitha, a staff member, contests in Villimangalam ward reserved for women as the Congress candidate. Nitya Babu is contesting in the women reservation seat of Kandrakani ward as the CPM candidate which is the sitting seat of Congress. Finally, Divya is contesting as BJP candidate for the second time. She is now in the fray in Nenmeni ward.

As the owner and all staff members are in the field campaigning, business at SKB textiles is managed by the family members of Mr. Gopalakrishnan. His son is now in the cashier’s chair.

“The textile is now managed by my mother, brother, and myself. Though all the four including my father have their own political beliefs, they are good friends,” Akhil SKB, son of Mr. Gopalakrishnan, told Deccan Chronicle.

Meanwhile, Vimal Boss who runs a bakery opposite to the textiles, has set up a hoarding in front of the textile pleading: ‘please elect our owner and staff members – SKB textiles’.
