Chennai: A CISF constable deployed at the Chennai airport committed suicide by shooting himself with a self-loading rifle (SLR) on his fore head in a bathroom at the international terminal on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Pulak Rajbongshi, aged 27 and was a native of Assam. The reason for his extreme action is not immediately known.
According to airport sources, the jawan, was supposed to report for duty in the afternoon.
“He seems to have straight away walked to the bathroom to kill himself from his barrack located near the old airport in Meenambakkam,” sources added.
CISF sources said that he had not left behind any suicide note.
He was a member of a freshly recruited batch of CISF and was working in Chennai for the last three months and was unmarried.
The police and CISF officials are examining his mobile phone details hoping to find out the reason for his extreme step.
“It is not clear if he had any issued with his superiors or if he was home sick or had any kind of relationship issues,” sources added.
The body of deceased jawan was immediately shifted to Chromepet GH for post mortem.
