Marital rape has always been considered to be a form of extreme spousal abuse perpetrated by the husband on his wife. However, a recent incident involving marital rape allegations in South Korea comes with a shocking twist. Instead of the husband, it’s the wife who is said to have raped her husband.
The 40-year-old woman from Seoul is actually the first person in the history of South Korea to be accused of marital rape. The Seoul Central Prosecutors’ Office has told the court that the woman had locked up her husband inside their home before forcing him to have sexual relations with her, according to a report by the Yonhap News Agency.
What’s even more unbelievable is that the accused is alleged to have committed this act so that ‘she could obtain favourable evidence to use in divorce proceedings’. Marital rape has been legally recognised as a crime in South Korea only since 2013.
