Sketches, tools of Neolithic Age found in Haveri district
Hubballi: Historians and researchers have found stone tool and sketches of nature belonging to Neolithic Age in a cave situated at Kundur village of Shiggaon taluk in Haveri district.
Experts claim that sketches carved on a hillock will throw light on the lifestyle of the people during the new Stone Age. They have unearthed sketches of sun, birds and animals at the site on the banks of Varada river.
Therefore, they have sought excavation of the site which is surrounded by the thorny plants to facilitate more research work. Researchers have unearthed several stone tools and weapons in various parts of Haveri district.
But, they have found sketches of peacock, blackbuck and lion for the first time adjacent to the temple of a Goddess in the village. Professors and students of Gudleppa Hallikeri college of Savanur have found the cave at the outskirts of the village.
They have also found places where stone tools used to be sharpened. Earlier, researchers had found stone tools and weapons belonging to Old Stone Age in adjacent Vardi and Hallur villages.
"People had lived on the banks of river during Stone Age and also used to carve sketches on the hills during leisurely hours after hunting. There is need to undertake excavation at the site to find more proof about Stone Age", said history Professor Shivayogi Korishettar who is heading the team of researchers.
