Halle Berry, Olivier Martinez part ways
Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez are divorcing after two years of marriage. The former couple have one son together, Maceo, aged two. Halle is said to have filed for divorce first, with Olivier submitting his own petition late on Tuesday, according to TMZ.
In their joint statement, the two said, “It is with a heavy heart that we have come to the decision to divorce. We move forward with love and respect for one another and the shared focus for what is best for our son.
“We wish each other nothing but happiness in life and we hope that you respect our, and most importantly our children’s privacy, as we go through this difficult period.”
According to TMZ, the marriage unravelled in the past week after they hit a “breaking point”.
They had apparently been fighting over a January incident at LAX, where Olivier hit airport employee Ronaldo Owens with a car seat, pushing him to the ground. A $5 million lawsuit was filed in mid-October against both of them for the attack. This “exacerbated their conflicts”, it was reported.
“They have a personality difference,” it was also claimed by TMZ. “They’re just very, very different people. He’s a very macho guy, and things just didn’t jive.”
The two had signed a prenuptial agreement prior to their marriage.
Sources also told TMZ that Halle “is not asking for joint or primary custody, but rather what is in the best interests of the child”.
This will be Halle’s third divorce and Olivier’s first.
