MCA to discuss spat on Friday

Shastri allegedly abused Naik after the 214-run loss to South Africa in the series decider

Mumbai: Wankhede pitch curator Sudhir Naik has made a formal complaint to Mumbai Cricket Association of verbal abuse against Indian Team Director Ravi Shastri. The MCA’s managing committee is set to discuss the complaint on October 30.

Shastri allegedly abused Naik after the 214-run loss to South Africa in the series decider on Sunday. Shastri apparently did not like the flat track and he took a dig at curator Naik. The Team Director allegedly used some harsh words and Naik also reacted sharply. Both former Test cricketers have opened the innings for India in the past.

In his complaint, Naik has alleged that Shastri used un-parliamentary language while telling him what he thought about the ODI pitch midway through match and bowling coach B Arun also fired his assistant Mamunkar on the same issue

“Ravi Shastri completely out of line to abuse Sudhir Naik, curator at Wankhede. Showed disrespect to age & fellow test cricketer,” tweeted former India player and current commentator Sanjay Manjrekar. Naik is believed to have admitted that Indian team management wanted a spinning pitch which was not possible at the 11th hour.
