Hyderabad: A water valve at Ramachandrapuram leaked due to power interruption on Tuesday, once again leading to wastage of drinking water at Patancherruvu.
This was the second incident of leakage after the major Balapur pipe burst incident wherein over five lakh litre of water was wasted. Water supply was stopped for a few hours at Division 8 to carry out repairs of the valve.
The leakage was reported at the main pumping pipeline of Manjeera Phase 2 — from Patancherruvu to Hydernagar.
An official from the operation and maintenance wing of the Metro Water Board said, “The main pipeline from Patancherruvu to Hydernagar was laid over 25 years back. That’s the maximum life of a pipeline; also, it is made of concrete and not mild steel. Due to power interruption, which was reported thrice, an air pocket formed in the pumping line that led to the leakage.” Leakages were also reported In Krishna Phase 2 on Tuesday. State Minister for IT and panchayat raj, K.T. Rama Rao, inspected the Krishna Phase 2 gap at Prashasannagar and directed officials to lay a 270-running meter pipeline.
With this the total network for Krishna Phase 3 will be completed and areas like Kukatpally, Prashasannagar, Serilingampally and Madhapur will receive more water. Water Board officials have been given a deadline till November 15 to complete the gap. Mr Rama Rao also announced that by December, the city would receive water from the Godavari.
