Suspended from Mayithara Children’s home for trying to flee

ALAPPUZHA: Two orphans with a tendency to run away from the orphanages are unable to pursue their studies becau-se they have no place to stay.
Ansil, 14, and Mahin, 12, were suspended from the Mayithara Children’s Home after they tried to flee the home on September 30.
Though they had approached the Hope Community Village, an orphanage near Cherthala, they are yet to receive a positive reply.
Mr K.K. Joseph, Child Welfare Committee member, said that he was unaware of the incident. “We will look into the issue during the sitting on Wednesday,” he told Deccan Chronicle.
Mr T.G. Sureshkumar, Headmaster of DVHS, Charamangalam, where the boys were studying in class IX and VII, said that they were absent for the last one month.
“If anybody offers them a shelter to stay in, we will readmit them,” he said. At present, the children are helping their elder sibling, Shanavas, 20, a cobbler at Karunagappally.
“Our father had abandoned us when we were children and we grew up in orphanages in Alappuzha district. Our mother is bed-ridden. My siblings could resume their schooling if they could get proper accommodation,” he said.
Mr Santhi Raj, director of the Hope Community Village, said that he was trying to get them accommodated in Karunagappally itself.
“We have contacted the Kollam Chidline and they could provide them shelter,” he said.
