Telangana to seek Presidential Order amendment
Mr Srihari said an Assembly resolution would not be required before the amendment is sent to the Centre
Hyderabad: The Telangana government will ask the Centre to amend the Presidential Order issued under Article 371D of the Constitution in line with the recent Supreme Court order. This is required to legalise common service rules for government teachers belonging to different departments.
Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari said the file had been cleared and sent to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
The file is expected to be circulated in the TS Cabinet before being sent to the Union home ministry which will forward it to the President.
Mr Srihari said an Assembly resolution would not be required before the amendment is sent to the Centre. The AP Assembly had recently passed a resolution on the matter.
If the amendment comes through government teachers enlisted under the Panchayat Raj department and the Directorate of School Education will be treated on par for service benefits like pay and promotions.
The divergent cadre allocation as per the Presidential Order resulted in Panchayat Raj (zilla parishad) school teachers, though hired through the same process as government teachers, losing benefits.
