Government fills vacancies in cooperatives department
The department had also planned to fill lower level posts in a phased manner
Chennai: Following a DC report that staff crunch is impacting check on hoarding of pulses and sale of dal through fair price shops, the cooperatives department has filled the post of managing director/ joint registrar for Chinthamani cooperatives and two posts of cooperative sub registrars who control administration and accounts and monitor 286 shops in Chennai.
According to an official source, the co-operatives department examined the newspaper report and subsequently filled all the top posts lying vacant. Similarly, the department had also planned to fill lower level posts in a phased manner.
Thamizh Selvi, holding additional charge of handling PDS shops in north Chennai, is now the managing director. Similarly Mohan Raj, cooperatives (milk audit), will hold the post of cooperative sub registrar and another similar post lying vacant has been asked to be monitored by an officer in charge of PDS shops in Washermenpet, the official said adding orders have been served and two officers have already taken charge.
It may be noted that DC reported that allocation of dal, kerosene and sugar has been affected in several shops in Chennai, as there is no review by officials on the number of cardholders due to vacancies in senior positions in the co-operatives department.
