CPI leader S Sudhakar takes potshots at Modi

CPI’s Rajya Sabha MP D. Raja said that both the CPI and RSS were founded in the year 1925 when British were in power
Chennai: Taking strong exception to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence over the communal and controversial statements made by his party leaders, CPI general secretary S. Sudhakar Reddy on Tuesday accused Mr Modi of letting his party leaders speak what he cannot speak openly.
Addressing a meeting condemning the growing incidence of communal violence in the country here, Mr Reddy said that Union cultural minister Mahesh Sharma has asked the writers not to write for their symbolic protest of returning Sahitya Akademi awards after killing of authors including M.M. Kalburgi and Dadri lynching incident. He also pointed to the RSS’ organ Panchjanya openly justifying Dadri lynching incident by saying anybody who kills cow can be killed.
“On one hand Mr Modi praises Mahatma Gandhi as a father of the nation, on the other hand his party MP Sakshi Maharaj wants Nathuram Godse, the murderer of Gandhi, to be honoured and his statue to be installed,” he said, noting that Union minister of state V.K. Singh equating dalits with dogs when Mr Modi praises Ambedkar. “Narendra Modi has not said a word about it. Is he afraid of all these people? He is not afraid of them. What he doesn’t want to speak openly, he makes them to speak,” he charged.
After curbing freedom to debate and write, Mr Reddy said that now they were denying the freedom to chose what to eat. He said that beef is an integral part of the diet of South Indian people.
He noted that not only minorities, dalits and other castes people also consume beef. Stating that the communal forces want to dictate everyone’s life, he appealed to the people of Tamil Nadu to stand behind Left and democratic forces to fight against superstition and dark forces which are trying to “dominate our life and to liberate our motherland.”
CPI’s Rajya Sabha MP D. Raja said that both the CPI and RSS were founded in the year 1925 when British were in power. “Communist party and its cadres fought for the freedom against British while RSS were dividing people on the basis of religion at the behest of British,” he said, adding that with the BJP coming to power at the centre, the RSS has become an extra constitutional authority and dictates the function of the government. “Like the fight against Britishers, Communists will be again at the forefront in the fight against communal and fascist forces in the country,” he said.
