CBI arrests Income Tax chief, raids office, house
Several documents were seized from Anil Goel's office and flats for verification
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Commissioner of Income Tax in Kerala, Anil Goel, was quizzed by the CBI here on Tuesday and his office room and flat were raided in connection with the alleged acceptance of bribe from business persons. His arrest is likely to be recorded on Wednesday.
According to sources, Anil, who was on leave for about three weeks, reached Kochi on Monday and rejoined duty from there. He reached Income Tax office here by Tuesday afternoon.
Anil had informed the CBI authorities about his arrival in Thiruvananthapuram. A CBI team reached the Income Tax office at Kowdiar and raided his office, which was earlier sealed by the CBI.
He was taken to his flat at Kowdiar, which was also sealed by the CBI earlier. Several documents were seized from the office and flats for verification. Anil was quizzed at the CBI office till late in the evening.
The CBI had earlier raided his house in Mumbai and recovered evidence of huge wealth. The CBI subsequently sent a notice to him to turn up for quizzing.
A fresh bail application for principal commissioner in Thiruvananthapuram, Shailendra Mamidi, was filed at the CBI special court here on Tuesday. A bail application for Income Tax officer S. Sarath was filed on Monday. The court is likely to consider both the applications on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Vattiyoorkavu police, which obtained Sarath's custody on Monday, took him to his two houses near PTP Nagar. Sarath maintained that the bullets were received from the house which he purchased from a former military official.
With regard to the 21 liquor bottles recovered from his house, Sarath told police that those were gifted by friends, though he had stopped drinking about a year back owing to health problems.
