APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University to shut inept colleges

Colleges which do not have minimum standards after the auditing will be asked to close down
Thiruvananthapuram: The A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technology University will introduce academic auditing of all the 152 engineering colleges affiliated to it. This follows the resistance of self-financing engineering colleges towards the quality control measures planned by the technology varsity.
Colleges which do not have minimum standards after the auditing will be asked to close down.
Earlier, the university had proposed that 13 colleges with less than 30 per cent admission should transfer students to other colleges. This was stalled following opposition from these colleges.
Dr M. Abdul Rahman, University PVC, told Deccan Chronicle that the university statute did not have clause for closing down colleges merely because there was a shortage of students.
“That was why we requested them to transfer the students to other colleges. As they were not willing for that, we decided to conduct an academic auditing of all the colleges, including those with fewer admissions. The auditing will be based on the semester-wise and course-wise pass percentage. The affiliation of colleges with very low pass percentage would be withdrawn,” Dr Rahman said.
Of the colleges with less than 30 per cent admissions this year, one is a government-controlled self-financing college and 12 others private self-financing colleges.
The colleges with less than 30 per cent admission this year are St. Gregorios college of engineering, Kasargod, Pinnacle school of engineering and technology, Anchal, Prime College of engineering, Palakkad.
Toms college of engineering for startups, Matt-kara, Kottayam, Al Azhar college of engineering and technology, Thodupuzha, Mount Zion college of engineering for women, Kadamanitta, K.R.
