Anonymous letter against NGT judge
Jyothimani shows letter in open court, recuses himself from Porur lake case
Chennai: An anonymous letter written to a judge of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), southern zone, leveling ‘wild’ bribery charges against him in a high-profile case was produced in open court Tuesday.
The letter came to light during the hearing of the Porur lake encroachment case in court-2 of NGT before Justice P. Jyothimani and R. Nagendran. Suddenly, Justice Jyothimani, who is known for integrity and legal acumen, showed a letter in the open court addressed to him wherein he was accused of receiving '25 crore as bribe to favor Ramachandra institute in Porur lake case.
A visibly peeved judge announced he is withdrawing from the case and referred the matter along with the letter to the principal bBench of NGT, New Delhi, requesting it to take a view.
The letter was reportedly written by the " president of Porur public welfare association" and does not carry any name. Nor is it written in a letter head of the association.
The content of the letter claimed the association was told that Ramachandra institute had reportedly given Rs 25 crore to the judge and managed the outcome of the case. It had further requested Justice Jyothimani to stand for truth.
Sources said Justice Jyothimani has taken the matter very seriously. He will be raising the issue in Full Court meeting scheduled in NGT, New Delhi, on Saturday and Sunday. When contacted, Justice Jyothimani told Deccan Chronicle he was upset and did not want his name to be unnecessarily dragged in, which is why he referred the case to the Principal Bench.
