After Hampi, Badami to get facelift with Central assistance
New Delhi: A panel of the Union Government panel has approved an action plan of Rs 431 crore for Badami and seven other cities in the country under the Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana (HRIDAY).
The other cities are Varanasi and Mathura (Uttar Pradesh), Ajmer (Rajasthan), Dwaraka (Gujarat), Warangal (Telangana), Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh) and Velankanni (Tamil Nadu).
The action plans broadly seek to conserve and develop core heritage assets of the cities besides improving sanitation through solid waste management, easy access through signages and better mobility, interpretation centres, landscaping, provision of green spaces among others.
While some projects for a few of these cities were approved and funds released earlier, comprehensive action plans were cleared on Tuesday, a senior Urban Development Ministry official said.
