Mumbai: Couple violates traffic laws, thrash cop when stopped

The couple was riding a motorcycle when police stopped them for breaking traffic rules

Thane: A couple here allegedly physically assaulted a traffic policeman on duty after he rebuked them for violating traffic rules, leading to their arrest, police said on Wednesday.

The accused have been identified as Akshay Padmakar Patil (23) and Sneha Sadashiv Gouri (25), they said.

The couple was riding a motorcycle last night when Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Rajendra Koli stopped them at Ghodbunder Road for breaking traffic rules, Assistant Police Inspector (API) S M Chavan of Kapurbawdi police station said.

When questioned, the duo abused and thrashed Koli. They even snatched his walkie-talkie and broke it, he said.

A case has been registered at Kapurbawdi police station under relevant sections of the IPC, the police official said.
