BENGALURU: The sleuths of the fraud and misappropriation squad of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) have arrested a 33-year-old man, who allegedly cheated two medical seat aspirants to the tune of Rs 85 lakh. The police have recovered Rs 71 lakh in cash from the accused.
The accused has been identified as Jitendra Sankuratri, a resident of Farvella Apartment on Lavelle Road and a native of Sindhanur in Raichur district. He is reportedly an MBA graduate.
Police said the accused had contacted two students who wanted medical education seats in the city. After approaching them, he had convinced that he would get them seats in prestigious colleges in the city and had taken money. However, after receiving the money, he started avoiding them and did not get them the seats as well.
Hanumantharao and Anjaneya Reddy, fathers of the two students, had recently filed complaints in J.P. Nagar and HSR Layout police stations in this connection respectively.
“The investigation of the case was handed over to the CCB on October 15. Based on credible clues, the accused was arrested. When questioned, he revealed that though he had completed MBA, he had not worked anywhere and started cheating people to make easy money and lead lavish life. He has cheated several people in the last 3-4 years and we are questioning him,” the police added.
