Disgruntled UP government officers to take plunge into politics

Mr Singh has been awaiting a posting ever since he was removed from as principal secretary

Lucknow: Disgruntled bureaucrats, who are on the firing line of the Akhilesh government in Uttar Pradesh, are now planning to take a plunge into politics. Senior IAS officer Surya Pratap Singh and suspended IPS officer Amitabh Thakur who have been taking on the state government on various issues, are now preparing to continue their battle into politics.

While Mr Singh took on the Uttar Pradesh government on farmers’ suicide and mass copying in board examinations, Mr Thakur accused the Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav of threatening him when he exposed the corruption in the SP government.

Mr Surya Pratap Singh is set to launch his own political outfit with the 2017 state elections in mind. The 1982-batch officer is likely to announce his plans on October 28 when he will hold a conclave, ‘Uttar Pradesh Bachao, Uttar Pradesh Banao’, in the state capital.

Mr Singh has been awaiting a posting ever since he was removed from the post of principal secretary (public enterprises) in July. His application for voluntary retirement, which he had moved later, is yet to be cleared by the government. He will retire in December 2015.

Talking to a select group of reporters, Mr Singh confirmed he was contemplating joining politics. “The political party will not be identified with conventional politicians and it will echo the issues that I have bene talking about,” he said.

Amitabh Thakur said that since he was currently in service and his VRS request had not been accepted, he would not take any step defying service rules.
