Traffic cops collect Rs 38 lakh in 1 day in the form of e-challans

As per HTP records, since January this year, around 15.71 lakh e-challans have been booked

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Traffic Police collected Rs 38 lakh in the form of e-challans for traffic violations in a single day last week. The Cyberabad Traffic Police too collected a whopping Rs 32 lakh.

“Around 18,000 e-challans were cleared on that day in the area under the Hyderabad Traffic Police (HTP) alone. Even we were surprised,” said M. Narsing Rao, in-charge, Traffic (e-challan). He added that the aggressive campaigning had helped in the recovery of fine amounts. Owing to the HTP’s effective campaigning, awareness about timely payment of e-challans has increased and as per their data, till August this year, Rs 16,00,97,925 was collected. This is Rs 5 crore more than the entire amount collected in 2014.

However, it is not only the payment of e-challans by citizens that has increased, but also the number of motorists being booked.

As per HTP records, since January this year, around 15.71 lakh e-challans have been booked. This is around 60,000 more than last year.

Of late, SMS warning are also being sent to defaulters: “Please pay the amount immediately, otherwise legal proceedings will be initiated against you in the court by filing a chargesheet.” This warning should not be taken lightly, Mr Narsing Rao said.
