Tamil Nadu DGP, Home Secretary meet union Home Secretary

State govt had declared the two HC campuses in Chennai and Madurai as high security zone

Chennai: Amid preparations by Central Reserve Police Force for a take over of security of the Madras High court based on a request from the judges, state home secretary Apurva Varma along with state DGP Ashok Kumar met the union home secretary Rajiv Mehrishi at Delhi on Tuesday.

According to sources, the home team from Chennai held discussion with the union home secretary on security arrangement at the Madras high court, as the state police is not very keen on handing it over to the central force.

Though the state government had declared the two high court campuses located in Chennai and Madurai as high security zone, it held a view that the state police can handle the security.

A high court bench last month had suggested security cover by the central force after taking a serious view of a group of lawyers and ‘civilians’ staging a sit-in protest inside the court hall demanding conduct of proceedings in Tamil.
