Kochi: The Congress party has several leaders who are capable of becoming the chief minister, according to Excise Minister K. Babu. While releasing the UDF manifesto for the Ernakulam district panchayat, he observed that the question whether Mr Oommen Chandy would lead the UDF in the next Assembly elections was insignificant.
“There are no disputes within the party over who will be the next chief minister and the Congress does not have the practice of projecting a leader as CM candidate,” he said.
“But the situation is different in the LDF where Pinarayi Vijayan was earlier projected as the chief minister while there is widespread demand to consider VS for the coveted post,” he said.
Responding to VS’ allegations against Mr Vellapally Natesan, Mr Babu said that rather than making public statements, the Opposition Leader should file complaints with the Lok Ayukta or the Vigilance department.
