Hyderabad: Only a fifth of Indian MBA aspirants want to stay back and study in India while over half want to pursue management studies in the United States.
Though registrations for CAT are at a three-year high this year, Indian students are top applicants to foreign management progra-mmes across the world.
This was revealed by the Graduate Manag-ement Admissions Cou-ncil (GMAC) in its report on application trends. The GMAC conducts the GMAT exam for admission to management programmes.
The report pointed out that the US remained the preferred management study destination for about 66 per cent prospective students while only three per cent prospective students preferred India. Among prospective students, 53 per cent said they would prefer to study in the US while 21 per cent said they would stay back and pursue business administration here itself.
Institutions offering managements programmes across 35 countries stated that the largest number of applications were from India followed by China. Last year, the rise in applications have also been the highest from India.
The institutions also want to admit students from India and China due to the high demand. “India and China are the biggest sources of fluctuations in candidate pools for MBA and specialised business master’s programmes,” the GMAC study said.
According to the report, about 73 per cent of applicants to MBA in Canada were international students, while in Europe and the US it was 71 per cent and 58 per cent respectively.
