Centre mulls more credit for Africa
New Delhi: With heads of state and government of African countries starting to reach India, the historic four-day India-Africa Forum Summit (IAFS) began on Monday with a meeting of senior officials.
India, which is also planning to showcase a powerful cultural component highlighting the diverse cultures of both India and Africa, said on Monday that there would be two documents finalised at the end of the Summit of which one would be a “political” declaration highlighting global and regional issues such as the menace of terrorism while the second declaration would be a document on the framework of cooperation between India and Africa which would comprise issues such as the Line of Credit extended by India.
Speculation is rife that India may extend an Line of Credit worth billions of dollars to Africa which would be announced on Thursday, the day of the main Summit when prime minister Narendra Modi addresses the African leaders.
