Lighting for capital ceremony still not removed

Vijayawada: The special lighting arrangement made for all major roads in the city for the capital stone laying ceremony has not been removed even after four days. On the occasion of Amaravati stone laying ceremony on Oct. 22, officials of the district along with concerned departments decorated all the major roads like Bandar Road, Ramavarappadu ring road, Eluru Road and Besant Road with colourful lights.
Also all the major fountains at NTR Circle, Benz Circle, control room, VMC Circle and Ramavarappadu Circle were illuminated on Oct. 21, a day before the event, for international and national guests. Doubts persist as to who will pay the electricity bill for the consumption of power over a period of these seven days.
The coloured lights on a stretch of 20 km and 10 fountains will consume more than 10,000 units per day, totalling 60,000 units of energy consumption in seven days including Monday. According to sources in the civic body, the electricity department will pick up the tab for power consumption. The municipality will partially share the bills. However, there is no clarity as power connection was taken from street lights. When contacted, electricity department officials said all the departments will be served the power bills according to the consumption.
