Hyderabad: A local court acquitted two suspects in the Kakatiya Hotel blast case of 1999 and conspiracy case of 2000. Mr Mohammed Abdul Rauf (36), from Saidabad and Mr Asgar Ali (37), from Nalgonda, were acquitted due to lack of evidence. The court stated that the prosecution had failed to prove the charges. The CID was investigating both cases. The duo was earlier acquitted by the Gujarat High Court in the Haren Pandya murder case.
The two had served six months in jail for the two cases in Hyderabad, and later served more than five years in the Pandya murder case. Both had been released on bail few years ago. The bomb at Kakatiya Hotel near Lal Darwaza was a low intensity blast and no one was killed in the incident.
After the local police had booked the case, it was later handed over to the CID, who had started probe and rounded up a few youngsters. CID had later officially arrested the duo and charged them for attempt to murder under IPC Section 307 and valid sections under the Explosive Substance Act.
The second case for conspiracy was also booked. The accusation of probe officials was that the two had conspired for the bomb blast and various other attacks in the city. "The court stated that the prosecution had no evidence against the two people for their involvement in these cases. Earlier, they were also acquitted in other cases slapped against them by the Gujarat police," said advocate Mr M.A. Azeem. After they were released on bail, the two had been running small businesses in their native places.
