Om Puri is back to Mollywood
He is a legend who has proved his mettle across the industries and is equally busy in Hollywood. Language has never been a barrier for the very versatile Padmashri winner Om Puri.
He is coming back to Malayalam cinema after 27 years; his last Mollywood film was Lenin Rajendran’s Puravrutham.
The very busy Om Puri will be seen in Kannan Thamarakkulam’s upcoming film Aadupuliattam, which also has Remya Krishnan, Jayaram and Jewel Mary in pivotal roles.
The film goes back 66 years and is a story centred on a myth. Says Kannan, “There is a historical reference, but it has been fictionalised and the movie belongs to the horror-humour genre.”
Why did he cast Om Puri as the central character? Kannan says, “Om Puri’s character is a yogi who dwells in the forest. It is through his role that the film goes to the past from the present. The role is very important and demands a lot of depth and emotional intensity. I wanted an actor of great calibre and found Om Puri apt for the role.”
Om Puri is currently busy with his Hollywood projects and is abroad shooting for his film. Malayalam films have seen a spate of veteran Bollywood actors appearing in some of the recent films.
Remya plays the role of a tribal woman and Jayaram plays the role of a man who has done all kinds of odd jobs and has finally reached the pinnacle of success by becoming one of India’s topmost businessmen. “The story starts off from the present period and then moves to a flashback,” he says.
Kannan, who directed Thinkal Muthal Veli Vare, is not new to film world. “I have worked with I.V. Sasi and have done a film Sooraiyadal in Tamil. I have also worked as the technical director for some movies,” he says.
The film Aadupuliattam would begin shooting by November 20 in two schedules and the cast also includes Pashanam Shaji, Pisharaody and Sreekumar.
