Lexus builds an origami-inspired car made from cardboard

The paper car is glued from 1,700 pieces of cardboard

Remember making paper cars as a child and wondering if you could bring your masterpiece to life? Lexus has kind of done that.

The luxury carmaker, Lexus has put together an origami inspired car, which has 1,700 cardboard pieces glued together. According to Co.Exist, it took them three months to hand-glue the car together.

The car has been built in commendation to the ‘master craftsmen’ at a Lexus factory.

They have taken the Lexus IS 300h and converted it into a one-to-one model for the cardboard car. They have intricately worked on every curve and line in the structure of the car to give it the finish of a Lexus. One the designers of the car mentioned that the reason why the cardboard was used instead a plain sheet it would just have been white all throughout and wouldn't have different tone playing together, like it does now. The designers envisioned that the cardboard would give the car a sense of movement.
