Couple files $5 million lawsuit against Apple, claim damage for Wi-Fi Assist

Wi-Fi Assist automatically uses cellular data when the Wi-Fi connection is poor

Apple’s latest operating system iOS 9, among various others apps, had a distinct addition to its features, which was ‘Wi-Fi Assist’. Essentially, this new feature is switched on by default, and it automatically uses cellular data when the Wi-Fi connection is poor, to ensure good internet connectivity to a user.

However, the feature did not receive the response it was aimed to receive. iPhone users realised they were losing data much more faster than usual and it was just eating through data caps.

Consequently, a couple from California has sued Apple for $5 million in damages relating to Wi-Fi Assist. The suit claims that after the iOS 9 upgrade, unknowingly, the couple used their data pack way past their limits, ending up extra money for over-usage.
