Wall, unitary campus top Medical College Hospital wishlist

A worrying problem is the setting up of sewage treatment plant
KOZHIKODE: As polls near, Medical College Hospital (MCH) here is keen to present its wish list before the candidates. They include construction of a compound wall and setting up of a unitary campus.
“It’s long pending demand. According to MCI (Medical Council of India) guidelines, a unitary campus is a must for us. A proposal for a ring road system is also being mooted,” says MCH principal Dr P.V. Narayanan.
The fact is that they had encroached on several cents of the MCH land and there are umpteen paths on the campus that they use as their routine passage.
This question of security was there for long and till now no action was taken to retrieve the government land.
“During the tenure of previous principal, there was a survey attempt to identify the extent of the MCH property. But a few locals, including women, resisted the move tooth and nail forcing the authorities to stop mid-way,” said an MCH source.
Political parties are also reluctant to take up the issue as it would invite the wrath of the encroachers who had made the land theirs for long.
“It is unfortunate that a premier institution in Malabar lacks a unitary campus even now. The development of MCH would be affected by these type of apathy on the part of authorities,” said a senior physician.
Another worrying problem is the setting up of sewage treatment plant. The plan to drain out the waste water through the Kanoli Canal is still on paper and people residing nearby Kovoor had protested the draining out of water in their areas.
“We need help from all quarters for solving the issues. The cooperation people living nearby is important,” added Mr Narayanan.
