University of Hyderabad students strike for net fellowships
Hyderabad: University of Hyderabad students on Sunday raised the issue of scrapping of fellowships by the University Grants Commission for those students who do not secure fellowships through the National Eligibility Test. A group of students met at the shopping complex in the north campus to protest the UGC scrapping the non-NET fellowship.
The protest started off with students demanding that the non-NET fellowship be brought back. It has now grown to include the demand that the fellowships be extended to PhD and M. Phil students of state universities and that the fellowship amount be increased.
The Students Union of University of Hyderabad has decided to conduct a ‘UGC Chalo’ protest on Tuesday in which students from UoH along with their colleges from the two other Central universities in Hyderabad — Manuu and the EFLU— will protest at the UGC's regional office here on the scrapping of non-NET fellowship. Students from EFLU have decided to conduct a protest on the university campus on Monday evening.
