Cash heist: Culprit joined firm with stolen resumé

Police yet to get personal details of accused

Bengaluru: The investigations into Rs 50 lakh robbery from a bank cash van by an employee of Brinks Arya India Private Limited has revealed that the culprit had joined the company by submitting a stolen resume. So far, the police have no clue about the accused as they have not got any personal details.

Police sources said that the accused had joined the company by claiming he was Mahesh, a BA graduate and a resident of Nandini Layout. “Following the details given in the resume, we found out his house in Nandini Layout. When we picked up Mahesh for questioning, he was not even aware of the incident. After hours of questioning, we realised that he was innocent and had no connection with the incident,” an official said.

However, the police suspects that Mahesh’s resume was stolen without his knowledge and was used by the culprit. “It is learnt that Mahesh had applied for a job in a private company in Pulikeshinagar some months ago. Stealing the resume, the accused had applied for a job with the financial firm and he also got the job. There is utter negligence on part of the firm, which appointed him without proper background verification. We also suspect that some of the HR staff of the firm were also involved,” the official explained.

“In the stolen resume, the photograph of Mahesh is also attached. Despite that, the culprit has managed to attend the interview and got the job. How can the officials of the firm be so negligent when they are appointing a person who has to deal with crores of rupees every day? This has raised suspicion regarding the entire process of the culprit’s appointment. We will also book some of the officials of the firm for their negligence, if the investigation requires,” the official added.

On Wednesday evening, an employee of the firm, who had joined the firm three days ago in the name of Mahesh, had escaped with cash '50 lakhs in cash when the cash van stopped near IndusInd Bank at Webb’s Junction to collect money from the bank. The money was meant for ATM machines of various banks.
