YSRC wants state to roll back RTC fare hike
Hyderabad: The YSRC has demanded that the state government rollback of RTC bus fares which were hiked by up to 10 per cent on Friday.
Speaking to media on Saturday, YSRC spokesperson Tammineni Sitaram alleged that the Chandrababu Naidu government had been pursuing “anti-people policies with more vigour to favour the private sector.”
He said the hike in bus fares would have a cascading effect and would burden the common man further in these days of rising prices.
He said Mr Naidu had promised during electioneering for the general elections last year that he would not increase any fares including RTC tariff for next five years.
Mr Sitaram said on earlier occasions Mr Naidu had increased charges in the name of levy and now he ahd increased the fare from 5 per cent to 10 per cent which should be rolled back immediately.
He said that the coterie of private bus operators would benefit from the hike, with passengers preferring their services.
He said the world crude oil prices had fallen from $166 to $44 per barrel and the plunge was reflected in lower petroleum prices here. Yet, Mr Naidu has imposed an additional 4 per cent VAT on diesel. This was bound to push up bus fares, he said.
